Introduction

In the context of the given report, the researcher will discuss the leadership styles and theories of Timberland organization, which is located in New Zealand. The different theories, as well as leadership styles, will be identified and evaluated by the researcher and positive and negative points of those 4 leadership styles and theories will be critically analysed. In addition to this, the researcher will also apply those leadership styles in Timberland organization and will explain each of these styles may change the strategic performance of their entity. Timberland organization in New Zealand produces accessories and clothes, however, its major products are shoes. The classic wheat yellow boot of Timberland is recognized as a heritage piece which embellished the feet of customers all over the globe who are influenced by fashion. The first boot of Timberland was designed 40 years ago; however, the modern products of Timberland are quite attractive and innovative. The organization has made several improvements over the past few decades like the addition of anti-fatigue technology in order to give comfort. Seam-sealed construction, premium waterproof leather and rugged lug outsoles provide these classics long-lasting durability so that customer can wear it in any weathered conditions. In spite of long-lasting and quality products, the organization is suffering from a lack of leadership styles as well as theories. Hence, the researcher will help the organization in recommending innovative leadership styles and theories so that they can manage their business easily.

Great man theory– There is some great leaders around us. Leaders are leading the people on the right path since ages. There are female leaders as well who contributed to the nation like Queen Victoria and many more (Rosenbach, 2018). They have some qualities which make them different from other people. Some people may question are they born with those qualities or they adopted them on their way of growing. Those aspects of them make them look different from other human beings. Autocratic Leadership

This style of aggressive leadership is based on control. An autocrat leader always utilized a militant style of leadership, or they are rarely well-liked. The autocrats expect prompt execution and provide the right with input from the worker. This kind of leadership style always demands maximum output in spite of a difficult situation (Western, 2019). It rarely allows for a surrounding in which convenience will flourish. The employees have been pushing hard by an autocrat; often he does not get long term commitment loyalty in return. Low satisfaction and high turnover are expected in this leadership style. Every person is encouraged to perform under an autocrat and strict leader as their roles of the job have death or life consequences (Glatthorn, 2018). Therefore, if any employee performs well under an autocratic leader, then he can warrant promotion to high ranking promotion.

Positive points- The autocratic leadership is intuitive, does not require special knowledge and training as well as easy to learn. The leaders do not have to tense about responding and recognizing the emotions of their followers (Blanchard, 2018). 1.2 Application of leadership style for improving the strategic performance

Leaders these days also bore with great personalities which them from other people. Great leaders are found everywhere in the business platform, sports personalities, even in politics. Great leaders can be raised great qualities in them when they feel the need or they are born with those qualities. The great man theory was invented in the 19th century. It is linked to the great man of that time Thomas Carlyle, it is said that he was a great man back at that time according to them every leader is born with one gifted quality that makes them capture the imagination of masses. Leadership is treated as a work of men back in 19s that is why the name of this theory is Great man theory. But later with the revaluation, many women proved themselves as a great leader, who can lead as a man can (Hoch, 2018). Hence the name of the theory was changed to great person theory from great man theory. Great man theory is set on the assumption that leaders are born with the quality of leadership by providing them with the power to lead. Those traits in their personality apart them from others and give them a unique quality of assuming power and authority. Leaders set a goal and come out to try their best to achieve their goals on behalf of other people. Other people treat leaders as their hero. According to some people, those traits in the personality are stable; they stay with the personality after many generations. Many great leaders have fulfilled the role of the hero since ages.

Transactional leadership-

A transactional leadership style is considered as the most straightforward leadership style with a focus on reward, focus and processes which drive continuous results (Shamir B. A., 2018). While this type of leaders tends to lack the charisma and hype found in transactional leadership, they are good for business as they are much more result oriented. An autocratic leadership style punishes the employees because of poor performance; however, the style is not harsh. In addition to these, a transactional leader gives bonuses to their employees on account for their positive performance. Financial bonus is enough to influence many workers to work more productively. Therefore, the transactional leader is always focused on proven processes which give consistent outcomes.

Positive Points- A transactional leader produce continued good results even if the task is difficult. Since this type of leadership has a simplistic goal and style, there is not too much cost is needed in order to train staff for doing a relevant work(Waltre, 2018). Some external rewards like capital or other perks can be a major motivator for employees. Thus, it can drive productivity as well as performance. 

Negative Points- The organizational structure and their transactional leader are not flexible that can frustrate staff who enjoy a surrounding which promotes people’s thought and innovative thinking. Sometimes, the transactional leader is referred to as insensitive by those individuals who work for them as it can look like they are not tensed with the human component of the workplace.

Laissez-Faire Leadership

This type of leadership is totally considered as opposite to autocratic leadership. The laissez-faire style of leadership has some key benefits in making the environment. However, it also lacks proper structure and disciple which is often demanding in a corporate world. If production, hard deadlines and marginal profits are not necessarily a crucial factor, then Laissez-Faire leadership is considered as an easy approach to run an organization (Clinton, The making of a leader, 2018). It relies majorly on existing experience, talents and creativity in order to drive outcomes. 

Positive Points- A manager who uses this style of leadership can easily understand the requirements and demands of their team and understands the spirit of their organisation. The benefit also includes boosting productivity and empowering employees as well (Taylor, 2018). Therefore, an organization that uses this kind of leadership will boost their employees to become more innovative and upgrade morale as well. 

Negative Points- In this kind of leadership, employees are not working hard and the individuals are not working together when they have been led by a leader. Behavioural theory: 

The result of an organization comes on the basis of the behaviour of the leaders. How the leaders behave that decides the result of the organization. In order to become a good leader, a foremost and first thing is to have faith in their beliefs. Once they gain faith, then they can easily become a good communicator, listen to the ideas of others, guide others and putting the best effort in order to execute any crucial work. Leadership is all about passion and it is very important to build confidence in the minds of followers so that leaders can easily able to motivate and inspire them. 

Democratic Leadership Style

A democratic style of leadership is often found in human resource and management theory. The overview of democratic leadership involves the redistribution of power and authority between employees and managers to give the involvement of employees in the decision-making process. Some democratic fundamentals are used to control the approach of democratic leadership (Buzo, 2018). These fundamentals include inclusiveness, deliberation, self-determination and equal participation.
