1. Introduction

1.1 History and background of Chorus NZ

Chorus Company is the Telecom hardware provider with many branches of services that are there in operations. Chorus Company will provide broadband and phone services upon the copper and also fibre optical wiring. Chorus Company also has the transportation vans for installing the equipment and laying the wiring for the internet, telephone cables, and other lines (Chorus, 2018). Telecom was introduced by Chorus as a separate business unit in the year 2008. In 2011, Chorus was able to win most of the contracts that led the telecommunication industry and its infrastructure development to new heights. The condition of the contracts has separated Chorus into a separate company and the new journey started since then. With recommendation by Telecom board of directors internally and approval of 99.8% of Telecom shareholders this was made possible. On 1stDecember, 2011 Chorus officially got separated from Telecom and got listed under NZX. While separation, Chorus has got copper lines, most Telephone Exchange buildings, cabinets, ADSL cables and XT mobile networks. On 8th August 2014, Telecom got rebranded as SPARK. Now this company is an important part of telecommunications industry (Stuff, 2018).

1.2 Mission, Vision & Values of Chorus NZ

Mission Statement – They build and manage an open access internet network, rolling out ultra-fast broadband that will benefit generations to come (Chorus , 2018).

Vision Statement – Chorus has a vision of capturing top position among all the telecommunication companies by capturing major areas of the market by providing ultra-fast internet speed especially in remote areas where getting the connection is very difficult(McBeth, 2018).

Values – Chorus NZ has designed its policies in such a way that it offers value to their people and stakeholders and encourages them to work together with required enthusiasm (Chorus, 2019). 

1.3 Description of the project

This project management report is based upon the technical innovation undertaken by Chorus NZ within its telecommunication industry in order to gain sustainability in its telecommunication services across the industry. The role of strong network in the telecommunication industry is not hidden anymore. Its faster speed and strength of connection helps the industry in growing in a better way. Recently, Chorus has taken initiative of going through successful trials of using wireless technology solution that shall be helpful for them to connect faster network service to their customer’s door from the main street without any use of network connecting wires and connection point. For this wireless connection they have considered using Nokia’s WPON as a solution factor (Keall, 2019). 

2. Project management

Project management or project lifecycle in other terms refers to the set of management tools and techniques that helps the company to reach their goals and objectives through considering each and every vital phase of handling a real time project and getting successive results. These guidelines and proper explanation of project management phases have been extensively discussed in the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK Guide) that explains the five phases of project management process and its relevance towards the company’s success and growth (Bonnal, Gourc, & Lacoste, 2002). 

2.1 Phases of Project Management

Every project has to go through different stages of life starting from initiating the project to closing it successfully. This entire lifecycle is covered within a stipulated time period of some weeks, months or years but has to be covered within a set timeframe scheduled accordingly. All the activities undertaken within the project management process has a direct impact upon the profitability and productivity of the project hence must be aligned properly with assigned time limit and end results (Suri, Bhushan, & Jolly, 2009). 

3. Ensuring specific goals of the relevant project are aligned to the strategic vision of the organisation

Chorus always works for a better future and faster internet services provided to their users. The company analysed that it sometimes becomes a tedious job to help users with wired connections. The wires can roll with each other and this cross connection of wires leads to slow internet services. For Chorus the strategic objectives are to increase the speed of the internet to 3mbps more and another is to generate more revenue. Another one major strategic objective of the company is to extend its customer network to 80% users of chorus services in New Zealand. The company analysed that because of the slow internet services the customers are leaving Chorus. Therefore, the company worked on increasing the efficiency of their internet services by innovating a method of providing the customers with wireless network connection. 

Improved data communication results in quicker information transfer within enterprises and between associates and clients. Because wireless technology enables the customer to interact while moving, you are usually out of contact-there is no need for additional wires or adapters to connect desk networks. Wireless networks can be easier and cheaper to deploy, particularly in the houses mentioned or where wires are not allowed to be installed by the landlord. Wireless transmission is more likely to be attacked by unauthorised customers, so you need to give special regard to safety. It can be hard to achieve coherent visibility in some structures, contributing to’ white places’ where there is no message.

The project initiation phase enables the company and its project to go through the internal processes for building the company’s reputation and reaching their potential clients which in turn shall give optimum profits to the company in the long run. Chorus NZ with its business innovation of using wireless network connection can have a better approach towards the success and development of the company. The complexities in the usage of internet connection especially in the remote areas will be reduced to some extent if all the project phases are cleared properly with assurance of giving a better future to their clients and customers.

The wireless networking system developed by Chorus NZ will give high speed data, trustworthy and reliable networking source with better network feasibility and adaptability. The aim behind developing such a wireless networking system is to provide 20-30Gbps network speed to the users without any interruption. This will expand the network scope and give relevant results to the telecommunication industry like Chorus NZ. The people of remote areas who have to wait for a longer period for having secured and faster network connection will get improved coverage of network connection, advanced signalling capability, ability to get connected to numerous wireless sensors etc which can help the customers getting relieved in usage of wireless network connection (Dahiya, 2017). This business innovation project will deliver quality networking services to the customers and enhance the sales margin of the company as well.

Internal stakeholders 

Project team members – Project team associates are the stakeholders of the company who have direct impact upon the progress and success of the project. They are the persons who are responsible for handling different tasks and activities with respect to attain the project goals and objectives. They have to report to the project manager who will be responsible for handling project resources like budgets, human resources, quality and legal compliances etc which both positively and negatively can affect the efficiency of the project. 

Board of directors – They are the internal yet top management authority of the company who can change or modify various aspects of the project according to their plans and perceptions. The project issues and conflicts are discussed with them and according to those aspects if the management thinks of modifying any activity or replacing the same with others can be done positively. External stakeholders 

Customers – customers are the external but important stakeholder of the company who directly or indirectly can affect the productivity of the project. Hence, their satisfaction is much required for the development of the project. The use of wireless network connection and its positive impact on their lives must be communicated with the customers so that improved results can be witnessed by the team. Suppliers: -Suppliers play a key role in every project organisation. Nokia’s WPON server shall help to build small access points nearby telephone poles or lampposts for connecting the fibre wire with the network connection.

Technical Feasibility

Planning of the project, it is very important to gather information on what are the technical resources required to complete the project.
